Happy Birthday Mittens (the start of a tradition)

First post... here goes. It was boyfriend's birthday last week. This is his third birthday we've spent together. Three years, and every year (not necessarily as a birthday present) I have made him mittens. The first time I came up here to visit him when we had just started dating I made him black with a red tip for Valentine's Day. Then last Christmas, all black with a green chevron across the fingers. I will try to dig up some photos. Thought I'd get a head start on winter this year. Maybe a second pair for Christmas. 
I mostly crochet, but there is something about knitted mittens. Having them as a child, layering them against the cold, two then three pairs when temperatures dropped below minus forty degrees. Can never have too many pairs of mittens.
